That Ol' Ephemera: Why I Love Electronic Music but... →
bazilisk:
Dubstep is described in this Spotify artist biography of Skream as “…UK garage’s dark, half-speed offshoot” that uses the “tension and release formula.” Thank you, writer of that biography, for putting your finger exactly on why I love a lot of electronic music but hate dubstep. It is too…
Funnily enough, it’s that slow tempo with those precipitous (sorry) drops that...

The Onion AV Club have a fascinating interview with the two Johns of TMBG, as well as a playlist of songs that influenced them.
I’m excited about going to see them live at the Bodega this Friday, Guhznee Street, Wellington.

Bearing a Strange Device
Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been regularly skipping Gramophonic Detritus and Midnight Revel sets, and want to know why. The reason is that I’m working on an ambitious building project, and in the future there’s likely to be changes in sets and venues.[[MORE]]

Backing up like a toilet
As I write this I’m on the olds’ computer waiting for about 100+GB of My Documents folder to get backed up. Then there’s my Steam apps and emails.
I’ve been waiting for about two weeks and the extra memory module finally arrived this afternoon. So all going well this Saturday I should be able to commence the replacement of my frankly creaking and senile XP with a nice...

Bemused. Geek. NZ.: Audiobooks! →
bemused-geek-nz:
I’ve been ripping an audiobook version of K. W. Jeter’s steampunk classic, Infernal Devices, in the expectation that such a performance will go down most splendidly with the citizenry of Caledon, New Babbage, and the Steamlands in general.
This has not been a painless task. One has to label …

SL springs forward, Rabbit takes a day's break
SL started daylight saving, so now there’s only twenty hours’ difference between NZT (my home zone) and PDT (SL’s). In a month or so New Zealand will fall back for winter, requiring me to adjust my friggin’ calendar again.
This means that all sets, for those in the Antipodes, now start an hour earlier - unless the venue decides to shift all its times (like Bara.:CUDA:.,...

You can't like something before you try it,...
theprophetlilith:
I don’t care for how ReverbNation integrates into Facebook. In order to listen to a band’s music, you have to Like the page. But how am I to know whether I’ll like it if I can’t listen to it first? Bands should be promoted based on the virtue of their music, not based on some silly social network mechanic. (via Facebook)
THIS. Double for games or apps.
It also shits me off...

Bombastophone closing down
In a little over a week, our rental for the land we currently have The Bombastophone on will expire, and so will, for now, said instrument.
None of us have made this decision lightly. However there are RL strictures that mean that keeping the place open is no longer an option until said strictures are relieved.
Also, the venue was only being used twice or maybe three times in a week; not enough...

Just because you call it art doesn't make it less...
snatching-fedoras:
FYI to people who try to get me to pay attention to certain artists I can’t listen to because their music is actually triggering to me.
There was a track I downloaded in an album of industrial that I had to delete because it used, over and over again, a sample from the Saw movies. Yes, it was a synthetic horrible death, but nevertheless I found it extremely distressing.

Team PFV's Car Boot Sale →
Martien (our eldest account, consider him “father”) has finally pulled finger and got us touting his shirts on the Marketplace, starting with these ones.
One the one hand, free (and finished!) shirts. On the other, lots of login roundelay as we pose for the camera. And for some reason searching for ‘Team PFV’ doesn’t bring up our store.
There’s still another...

Considering possibilities
So Martien, Maku and I were talking earlier, and it looks like some projects are going to be pushed front and center to boost usage of the Bombastophone.
One thing that’s happening is that I’ll be simul-casting from The Ark on Wednesdays, all going well. The Hump will probably either move, get merged with Gramophonic Detritus on Thursdays, or be cut completely.
Maku’s 7Seas...

Magnificent Failure
What’s a MF? The new build, more or less.
The new place in Port Babbage was meant to do two things: Consolidate all our activities, planned and ongoing, and save money.
I’m actually spending more money per month now.
And as for the consolidation… well. The build currently holds:
Dance venue. This is taking up about 300 prims by itself - and the place still looks bare.

Not just moving, trying to set up
Those of you who actually look at my fucking calendar might wonder what’s happened to the Midnight Revels and Sunday Mushroom Garden Party.
The answer is that my alts and I are consolidating our properties and our activities into one location in Port Babbage.
New Babbage is a grimy steampunk city, so magical mushroom groves are right out, or at least under glass. There’s also a...

Moving, but still Grooving
My alts and I will be moving to New Babbage in a matter of weeks. It’s taken months of thought, dismissal, vaguely schizoid argument and planning, but we finally took the plunge and the building is already almost completed.
The opening will come after the interesting industrial accident.
So what does this mean?
First, parcels in desertpunk (not gorean!) MariKesh Mondrago and Caledon...
